The Mortgage to Rent Scheme aims to assist homeowners experiencing serious difficulties with their mortgage due to job losses and household changes. Under the scheme, people are able to remain in their home as a housing association tenant paying an affordable rent rather than as an owner occupier with an unsustainable mortgage.
Oaklee Housing has been working closely with a number of homeowners, lending institutions and the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government to assist homeowners under this scheme. To date we have assisted 44 households and numerous other applications are going through the process.
If you are interested and think you might qualify for Mortgage to Rent, you must first contact your lender who will decide whether or not you are eligible for inclusion in the scheme. If your lender considers that your mortgage is no longer sustainable then your lender will advise you of the next steps. For more information on the Mortgage to Rent Scheme, download the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government’s information leaflet below.
