Oaklee Housing, in partnership with Offaly County Council, has secured planning permission for 19 social housing units at Clonminch, Tullamore.

The development, which is fully Capital Assistance Scheme (CAS) funded, is a mix of one and two bedroom bungalows catering for the elderly in the community who are either on the housing waiting list or already in social housing but looking to down-size.

Designed for contemporary living by Brian Dunlop Architects, the bungalows are set around a central landscaped plaza created by Doyle + O’Troithigh Landscape Architects as social space for residents to enjoy.

The development will be serviced by public transport with a new bus stop providing easy access into and out of the town centre approx 10 minutes away.

‘We are delighted to receive this grant of planning permission,’ says Sharon Cosgrove, Oaklee Chief Executive Officer. ‘This is the second of 2 sites on which we, in partnership with Offaly County Council, will deliver a total of 60 much needed social housing units for the Tullamore area and we look forward to welcoming the new residents in spring 2021’

‘This site provides a fantastic opportunity to increase available and appropriate housing stock to the community’, says Tom Shanahan, Offaly County Council’s Head of Housing. ‘This, on top of the 41 units that Oaklee Housing will deliver for us at Kearney’s Field, Tullamore means that we are in a much better position to service the housing needs in this area.’

The scheme with an anticipated 12-month construction period is now in design detailing phase and is expected to start on-site in January 2020.
